Luxury Scottish Gin is Shining brightly: The stars align for Arcturus gin

Luxury Scottish gin, Arcturus has had a glittering start to the second half of 2019. Shining brightly like its namesake, the star of Arcturus, the hand-crafted gin will soon enter its third year of trading with three international accolades and a new Arcturus experience, at The Torridon.

Created by luxury hotel and resort, The Torridon in 2017, Arcturus is heavily inspired by the magical landscape of the Scottish Highlands. The resort's stunning surrounding landscape is the inspiration behind the gin, with local ingredients including Scots lovage, kelp seaweed, rowanberries and bilberries, foraged from the surrounding land, sea and mountains. Blended with pure Scottish loch water, then distilled and bottled at local Highlands-based distillery, Dunnet Bay Distillers, the finished product is an aromatic, crisp, clean gin with a dry finish.

New for September

Arcturus has collected another award, a new online shop has been launched, and a unique gin garden has been built.

Arcturus gin has been accredited one-star in the 2019 Great Taste Awards, the only hotel gin to be named in this year's awards. Chosen as one of the winners from 12,772 products, Arcturus was noted for it's versatile mix of botanicals, juniper and herbs, with judges tasting a citric heat when consumed neat, and developing into a creamier finish when mixed with tonic. The taste journey was a real highlight for judges, transporting them immediately to the Highlands.

Dan Rose-Bristow, owner of The Torridon and Arcturus Gin said: "We are committed to providing our customers with a taste of the Scottish Highlands in a bottle and are so proud of the product we have created.

"Using local, Scottish ingredients is so very important to us and we are constantly looking for different ways to use the amazing Highlands landscape to feed our hotel restaurant and the Arcturus brand. The whole team, from the gardeners to our bar staff had a say in the development of Arcturus, so to see the gin endorsed by the esteemed Great Taste awards and its expert judges is a true testament to the hard work and dedication of The Torridon team and Arcturus as a gin in its own right."

Dedicated to forging a brand to reflect the great Scottish landscape, The Torridon has recently built a gin herb garden and a star-shaped natural pond in the hotel's grounds, adding an experiential experience for gin lovers.

Try and buy

The best way to sample Arcturus gin is during a leisurely afternoon spent at The Torridon, soaking up the gin garden's aroma before choosing a fresh herb to add to a gin cocktail. The Torridon's award-winning Whisky & Gin Bar shakes and stirs Arcturus into a variety of concoctions; the perfect accompaniment to a Scottish afternoon tea, with locally-sourced salmon, cheeses and meat, and scones with homemade jam from the Kitchen Garden.

Arcturus is now available to purchase online. A 50cl bottle of Arcturus is priced at £36, plus £4 delivery. Complement the star-studded gin with an elegant tulip or gin goblet, from £10 per glass, also available through the online shop.

For the ultimate experience, try Arcturus gin at its source of inspiration by booking a Scottish gin afternoon tea and stay at The Torridon Resort, from £172.50pp (based on two sharing).
